August Updates from Liberty GAPNA

Posted about 9 years ago by Sarah Kangas

Dear Liberty GAPNA member -

The summer is in full swing! School will shortly begin again , not only for our children, but for new classes of Masters and Nurse Practitioner students. Do you remember your first preceptor and the effect he/she had on your learning? Have you considered precepting a NP student?

Liberty GAPNA was recently contacted by two Pennsylvania area Nurse Practitioner students who are asking for PA based preceptors. The average time commitment is 14 hours a week for 10-12 weeks, though requirements vary by university. Please email libertygapna@gmail.com if you would like the opportunity to mentor a student.

As a bonus: up to 120 hours of your time spent precepting a student are granted as credits for your ANCC certification renewal.

You can also register as a preceptor with the ANCC Preceptor Bank
Details are available at: http://www.nursecredentialing.org/Documents/ANCC-Preceptor-Bank.aspx

As you know, I will be traveling to Phoenix in late September for the annual GAPNA conference. Registration is still open if you are interested in attending! Each year the conference participates in a service project as a gesture of goodwill towards the geriatric community. This year GAPNA is supporting the DOVES Foundation, which provides support for late life victims of domestic violence. Program details are found at http://aaaphx.org/program-services/doves-program/

GAPNA is collecting $10 and $15 gift card certificates to Walmart or Target to donate to this charity. Please contact us and we will share the mailing address for the gift cards. And thank you for your support!

Details for our first dinner meeting will be coming next week, stay tuned!
