Who We Are

Community Healthcare Network (CHN) is a not-for-profit organization providing more than 65,000 New Yorkers with primary and behavioral healthcare, dental, nutrition, wellness, and needed support services.

Position Summary

Provides administrative support to Director of Psychiatry. To act as a psychiatric consultant on clinical issues to all areas of CHN including primary care and health homes. Eighty percent (80%) of the provider's time is spent conducting psychiatric evaluations and management of patients as well as providing consultations and education to clinical staff. Twenty percent (20%) of the provider’s time is spent on administrative tasks, which includes planning and coordination of program needs and quality oversight. The provider works closely with the Directory of Psychiatry in coordinating the assessment and planning for the Behavioral Health Program. Meets regularly with program staff to address clinical issues, and be available to assist Director of Psychiatry in developing relationships with community agencies.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Sees patients at least one CHN site. Performs psychiatric evaluations on all patients seen.
  • Responsible for screening, assessment and evaluation of walk-in patients in crisis situations.
  • Performs emergency psychiatric evaluation and provide the appropriate intervention, which may include medication therapies or immediate referrals to in-patient facility.
  • Reviews and interprets medical history data and continually updates this information as necessary.
  • Evaluates each individual patient and prescribe appropriate medication treatment and/or refer as indicated, and maintain continuity of care.
  • Regularly meets with nurse practitioners to address ongoing clinical and operational needs.
  • Supports Director of Psychiatry in regular peer review of all mental health providers
  • Provides clinical consultation to all providers at CHN
  • Periodically reviews the medical policies pertaining to mental health and update through memoranda to the AVP of Behavioral Health and Social Services.
  • Reviews all problem cases to determine course, management of treatment, referral for consultation.
  • Meets with clinical staff periodically to evaluate efficiency and quality of patient services with the Director of Psychiatry on a regular basis.
  • Attends ad hoc behavioral health leadership meetings with the Director of Psychiatry, the VP of Behavioral Health and the AVP of Behavioral Health and Social Services.
  • Participates in monthly departmental provider conferences chaired by the Director of Psychiatry to discuss subjects of interest to psychiatric providers.
  • Assists in the recruitment and onboarding of incoming staff.
  • Attends internal and external quality improvement committees and provides updates on reporting metrics.
  • Regularly assesses and maintains provider schedules; implements updates at direction of Director of Psychiatry.
  • Facilitates related services for health center patients and CHN staff as appropriate, with respect to their confidentiality and privacy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Required

  • Current New York license to practice Psychiatry
  • Successful completion of a medical or nurse practitioner degree from an approved medical or nursing school.
  • At least 5 years of clinical psychiatric experience.
